New England Revival Arts & Crafts (1860-1910)
The clean and simple lines used in the construction of the arts & crafts home sharply contrasted the ornate style of the Victorian era. The design was practical and comfortable employing the natural materials wood, art-glass, tile, stone and shingles in both the interior and exterior of the craftsman’s home. Oak chestnut, maple or fir built-ins, inglenooks, exposed beams and tapered pillar posts are hallmarks of Arts and Crafts architecture. Walls were commonly wainscoted with wide caps and batten strips. The woodwork and trim pieces all flowed together from room to room.
Oak stained dark was the flooring of choice for this era. Bingham Lumber’s New England Revival Arts and Crafts period room encompasses the feeling of quality craftsmanship that is aesthetically pleasing to the eye in a functional small home.
